Lifebook C1110 is a nice, very cheap, laptop designed by
Fujitsu Siemens. Here is a brief description
of the hardware :
- Intel Pentium M Centrino 1.3 GHz
- 15.1 TFT XGA (1024x768 max)
- 256 Mo DDR-SDRAM 266 MHz
- 40 Go
- Combo DVD, CD-R/CD-RW (8x 24x 10x)
- Realtek 8139 10/100 Mbs network adapter
- Sigmatec STAC9767 audio controller
- Intel 855GM video controller
It looked great and seemed to work perfectly with Linux. I bought it, resized the NTFS
partition of Windows XP with Boot
It NG, tried to install Red Hat 9, and : YES, it really works great with Linux !
Absolutely nothing special was required to install and configure it, a real pleisure ! After
a default installation, I successfully tested : USB, sound, DVD+CD-R, video acceleration,
network, and PCMCIA.
As you may suppose, ACPI was the only problem. But quite simple to solve : I downloaded the
2.4.25 kernel, applied the 2.4.25
ACPI patch, and recompiled my kernel. Now I can see
the state of the battery, and it moves like the one on the integrated small LCD screen on the
top of the keyboard : I guess it means it work ;-)
I did not test the following features yet :
- Centrino (WiFi)
- Modem
- IrDa
